Francesca Beard

Francesca Beard has been called 'brilliant' by the Scotsman, 'spine-tingling' by the Independent and 'The Queen of British performance poetry' by London Metro. She has performed her poetry all over the world, with the British Council - from a café in Azerbaijan, to the Bangkok shopping mall, the state library in Harare to a Colombian prison and all over the UK, in arts centres, schools, libraries, festivals and clubs. She is a visiting lecturer in creative writing at Westminster University, writer in residence at St Gabriels College in Lambeth and Harris Academy in Battersea. She has worked as writer / facilitator on participatory projects with the Young Vic, The Barbican, BBC, The Metropolitan Police, Tower of London and ICT and written short plays for the Royal Court Theatre, Radio 3 and 4.

She is currently developing a new show ‘How to Survive the Post-Truth Apocalypse’, with support from Arts Council England.

Joshua Idehen

Joshua Idehen

Joshua Idehen is a poet, teacher and musician. A British born Nigerian, Joshua was the founder of one of the most successful poetry events in London, Poejazzi. His poetry has been published alongside Linton Kwesi Johnson and Anthony Joseph and he has performed at festivals and respected venues across the UK and Europe. He is a member of electro/R&B band: Hugh, who've recently been championed by Huw Stephens, Diplo and Aluna George. He recently collaborated with The Comet Is Coming on their debut album 'Channel The Spirits' which was nominated for a Mercury Award.

Aisling Fahey

Aisling Fahey

Aisling Fahey is a poet who has performed in various locations across England, Ireland, America and India, including the Barbican, the Houses of Parliament and Glastonbury. She was a member of Barbican Young Poets and is part of the Burn After Reading collective, established by Jacob Sam-La Rose and Jasmine Cooray. Aisling was Young Poet Laureate for London 2014 - 2015. During her tenure, she completed residencies in places such as the Free Word Centre, the London Irish Centre, Waterstones Piccadilly and the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. Her year ended with a tour of India organised by the British Council where she performed and led workshops across India.

Robin is a physicist whose poems revolve around science, society and other weird interests. He is the reigning Cambridge slam champion, UK slam finalist and Vogon poetry slam champion of 2015.

Spit & Polish are proud to present a truly eclectic line-up for our 19 March event. Headlining is the so called ‘Queen of British performance poetry’ Francesca Beard, whose one-woman show ‘A Lie,’ has been wowing audiences across the UK. Joining her are the multi-talented poet and musician, Joshua Idehen, the Young Poet Laureate for London 2014 - 2015, Aisling Fahey and Vogon poetry slam champion of 2015, Robin Lamboll. Expect to be startled, inspired, impressed and amused.
